DESP II allows for two types of tasks:
| 1. |
Direct Reliability Maintainability & Deployability (RM&D) of components, systems and subsystems. This task is intended to improve the RM&D of a weapon system end item by directly modifying the design of that end item. |
| 2. |
Indirect Reliability Maintainability & Deployability (RM&D). Two classes of indirect RM&D tasks are identified: |
| |
A task which must involve process creation, replacement, or improvement that will measurably enhance the RM&D of an existing weapon system end item. Support equipment RM&D applications are included. |
| |
A task that requires a change or modification to an existing manufacturing or repair process that will potentially improve the RM&D of the end item subject to the process. Includes process improvements
which if not implemented could result in serious weapon system degradation. |
DESP II includes access to Engineering Services as necessary to:
| |
Provide for technology insertion. |
| |
Provide for design, prototype and test. |
| |
Provide for development of technical data package. |
Since DESP II has already been awarded to AES, DoD program managers can quickly place their RM&D related tasks on this contract for immediate service. The long procurement process is thus avoided.
